Resources

Caring for a family member or close friend is one of the most important—and complicated—roles you’ll play. It can happen suddenly, with an accident or illness, or it may start with driving your loved one to get groceries or going to the doctor. Later, you may find yourself taking more time off from work, preparing meals or handling their finances.

Whether you’re just beginning to anticipate a need or taking care of a family member full-time, this guide serves as a practical tool to make the process easier for both you and your loved one. It includes advice, resources and checklists to help you get organized and find support on your caregiving journey. Remember: Just take it one step at a time.

The biggest benefit of technological tools is providing seniors with the opportunity to be as independent as possible while giving caregivers or loved ones some peace of mind. The use of a GPS Tracker can help quickly locate a loved one who may wander or become lost.

Your Questions, Our Answers

Exploring Senior Living

If you’re healthy and active, now is the perfect time to explore your options. Planning ahead lets you enjoy all that a vibrant community has to offer—social connections, engaging programs, and a supportive environment—on your own terms. Waiting until a health issue arises can limit choices and add unnecessary stress. By considering a community now, you give yourself the opportunity to live fully, independently, and confidently.

Start by looking at your total current living expenses—not just mortgage or rent, but utilities, groceries, maintenance, and other costs. This helps you assess what you can afford and the value a community lifestyle provides.

Financial resources may include:

  • Pensions, investments, annuities, or other financial instruments
  • Sale of a home or other assets
  • Savings accounts
  • Social Security benefits
  • Supplemental Security Income
  • Veteran’s Aid & Attendance benefits

Some communities are licensed to accept Medicaid in limited circumstances, typically for current residents who have depleted their funds.

Next Steps: The best way to explore your options is to contact one of our communities directly. Our team can guide you through financial and lifestyle options. You can also access helpful resources online at SecondAct Financial Solutions.

Health, Wellness & Memory Care

Actually, the opposite is true. Research shows older adults often gain vitality when living in a supportive community. Wellness professionals guide residents in fitness, nutrition, and overall well-being, while social and intellectual opportunities keep life engaging and fun.

If your needs change over time, personalized support from a trusted care team allows you to maintain independence while receiving the help you need.

Some memory changes are natural with aging, and many residents thrive in independent or assisted living. If memory loss affects safety or daily functioning, a move to a secured memory care neighborhood may be recommended. Many communities offer memory care on the same campus, easing transitions.

Memory care neighborhoods provide higher staffing ratios for one-on-one support and secured environments that allow safe movement—including outdoor walks—while preserving independence and peace of mind.

Care is always individualized. Our on-site team works with residents and families to create a Growth and Wellness Plan™ that identifies strengths, goals, and support needs. Assistance is provided as needed, allowing residents to maintain independence while receiving help where it matters most.

Medication management is handled with precision and compassion by trained staff, ensuring residents receive the right medications at the right time. Our team also communicates with healthcare providers to keep families informed.

Yes. Residents can move seamlessly between independent living, assisted living, and memory care as needs evolve. Many communities have multiple care levels on the same campus to make transitions smooth and stress-free.

Resident Growth & Wellness Plans™

At Compass Senior Living, we put the person first. Our Growth and Wellness Plans™ shift the focus from traditional, institution-style care to a model centered on each resident’s strengths, preferences, dreams, and goals. Well-being is the ultimate measure of a fulfilling life, and our approach is designed to support it every day.

Rather than defining residents by diagnoses or limitations, we partner with each individual to identify opportunities for growth, connection, and meaningful engagement. By highlighting personal strengths and celebrating individuality, our plans guide the care and support residents need—within a culture of compassion, respect, and empowerment.

At Compass Senior Living, we have the privilege of hearing the wisdom, humor, and small but meaningful stories from elders who have lived nearly a century. Each story—whether a cherished memory, a life lesson, or a moment of joy—offers a unique window into a life well-lived.

Through our simple process of capturing these stories, we create an enriching experience for both the storyteller and the listener. Residents share their adventures, challenges, and insights, forming deeper connections and preserving their legacy for generations to come—complete with voices, photos, and personal reflections.

The Tiny Stories™ Project has already preserved hundreds of stories told from our residents’ perspectives.

Circle of Friends™ is built on the fundamental human needs for connection, love, belonging, and purpose. In these gatherings, residents and care team members come together with a shared intention, guided by a facilitator.

Activities may include conversation, creative expression, cognitive exercises, music, goal setting, or community engagement—anything that fosters connection and engagement. At our core, we are social beings, and meaningful conversation is one of the most powerful ways to connect. Circle of Friends™ helps residents rediscover these connections, nurture relationships, and support overall well-being, especially as friends and loved ones may no longer be nearby.

The Compass Café offers an enhanced dining experience that complements our daily menu. Meals are thoughtfully designed to meet residents’ nutritional needs while providing variety and honoring personal preferences.

Menus are refreshed every 4–6 months to feature seasonal ingredients and community favorites, and special options are included for residents with Alzheimer’s or dementia. The Compass Café blends tradition with innovation—bringing comfort, choice, and flavor to every meal.

Brain Boost Nutrition™ is one of our most popular programs, designed to support brain health through delicious, nutrient-rich foods. Research shows that diets rich in fruits and vegetables—packed with antioxidants—may help protect brain cells and support cognitive wellness.

At Compass, we believe everyone can benefit from these brain-friendly meals. By enjoying a variety of fresh fruits, vegetables, and wholesome ingredients, residents receive the nutrients that help promote overall brain health and wellness.
